Hi everyone, my name is Michael and the folks here at Glasshammer Gaming were kind enough to let me talk to you about my new blog venture, UK 40k Tournaments. This is a new resource for 40k players in the UK who are looking for information on what great tournaments they can attend in their area. Let me tell you a bit about my gaming history and why I decided to set up the new blog.
I started playing 40k back in 3rd edition and have played every edition of the game since then. I was mostly a local club gamer, matching my armies and skills against the local meta and slowly building up my forces and my expanding White Dwarf collection.
About three years ago, I started my own gaming blog, St Andrews Wargaming, and started attending more and more tournaments, testing my mettle against various players from around the UK. As much as I love my local gaming group and my hobby time at home, attending tournaments is a great way to improve your game and is a great boost for your hobby progress as well.
A tournament serves as a great deadline for getting your army finished or for expanding your collection even further. At the moment, I am currently in the process of getting my final units painted up for the London GT in a couple of weeks, having spent the last few months updating my Dark Angels army for the event.
Not only that, but I am looking forward to meeting up with a range of fellow gamers and bloggers who I have only met thanks to the 40k community in the UK. A tournament serves as a great way to catch up with friends you don’t get to see that often, seeing how their lives and their armies are coming along. You also get to see some fabulous hobby content, with some fantastic armies on display at almost every event you attend.
Obviously, one of my favourite parts of attending a tournament is playing some great games of 40k against new opponents. I write these up as battle reports on my blog (proper old school written ones with maps and photos!) and reviewing the performance of my army at the tournament. This helps me improve my game and slowly tailor my army to becoming a more effective force on the tabletop.
One of the most common questions I get from readers is “how do I find out about the tournaments that I go to?”. Most of the time, I hear about events on other blogs I read or see them by chance on Facebook. Social media is a great resource for finding out about the events in your area. However, it really does depend on what events your friends are attending and any facebook groups that you happen to follow.
That got me thinking about starting my new blog adventure; UK 40k Tournaments. I wanted to try and create a site that could act as a resource for 40k players in the UK to find out about all the great tournaments that are held up and down the country.
With this blog, I will detail all the events that I can find out about so that other 40k players can find them and attend.
On the blog you will find a post for each tournament detailing the name of the event, the date and location, the format of the event and the cost, as well as a link to the event page/website for more information.
The blog also features a page listing all the upcoming tournaments by month and location around the UK. Another useful feature is an interactive map, with the location and date of each event that is listed on the blog, and a link to the appropriate post to get more information. This gives you a quick visual way of seeing what events in your area may interest you.
The blog is only just starting out, but there are already over 20 events listed all across the UK. I hope to keep the map and blog updated regularly, removing events as they pass and adding new events that I find.
My hope is that this will grow as a resource for competitive players in the UK for finding information on tournaments to attend.
Please head over to the blog and check it out. You can follow the blog with a google/blogger account, or you can head to the Facebook page and follow to keep up to date on all the events.
I also need your help to build this up! If you are holding/attending an event that is not listed, let me know. You can either share it on the UK 40k Tournaments facebook page, or email me (email@example.com) so that I can get the page updated. Please share with your 40k friends and your local TO so that I can add their events to the site and hopefully bring more attendees to their events.
If you have any feedback or suggestions for the site, please let me know as well. This is just starting out, so it’s easier to change things at this early stage.
Also, don’t forget about the upcoming Glasshammer Open, being held on 20-21st October 2018 in Oakengates. I definitely be getting my ticket for this fantastic new event!
